Data protection policy

PIXELIO appreciates your visit to our multimedia platform. Protecting your privacy when processing personal data is central to everything we do. We process personal data collected when you visit our multimedia platform in compliance with the relevant data protection legislation. Our website may contain links to other websites, to which this privacy statement does not apply. In the course of the development of our website and the implementation of new technologies to improve our service for you, amendments to the data protection policy may become necessary. For this reason we recommend that you read over the data protection policy from time to time.

What is personal data?

Pursuant to the Federal Data Protection Act, details of an identified or identifiable person's personal or material circumstances are deemed to be personal data. This includes information that identifies a person, such as their name, e-mail address and postal address.

Collection and processing of personal data

In principle you can use PIXELIO without registering. When you are using PIXELIO, the system automatically collects and stores the information that your browser sends to the website in log files. This includes:
- type of browser/browser version
- the operating system being used
- referrer URL (the previously visited site)
- the host name of the accessing computer (IP address)
- time of server inquiry.

For registered members PIXELIO also stores:
- company (optional)
- name
- address
- date of birth
- uploads and downloads of content
- registration date
- date of last login
- lightbox pictures
- friendships

On registering, members can also volunteer information (e.g. profile pictures, avatar pictures, profession, education, home page, photographic equipment). Of course PIXELIO also collects and stores information that you enter in comments, in the private messaging or in the PIXELIO forum or transmit to the site by other means. This concerns all comments, names, e-mail addresses and URLs which you enter in the appropriate fields.

On the basis of the consent given by members during registration, PIXELIO also processes personal information for the purposes of individual member information and member support. These include personalised services, in particular the provision of user-specific content, as well as the opportunity for members to receive interactive communication (newsletters, e-mails, text messages etc.) on request. This enables us to provide platform users with custom content and services and improve the usability of our online services.

Disclosure of personal data

All personal information that you have provided us with will of course be treated confidentially.
In the course of the platform's operation, registered members will have access to the following personal information on other members:
- the username of the uploader of a given picture
- the name of photographer
- the upload date of a given picture
- the username of a downloader of a given picture
- the date when a picture was downloaded
If any claims are asserted against the operator of PIXELIO by a third party on account of a member's infringement of the law, the member will be deemed to have given consent to the disclosure of his/her name and postal address to the third party claimant.
We will not share any further personal data with third parties, unless you have given separate consent for this or if we are required by law to disclose such data. Our staff and all persons working with personal data have been sworn to confidentiality.

The use of cookies

To make the platform even more user-friendly, effective and secure, PIXELIO uses so-called cookies. Cookies are small text files which are temporarily stored on your hard disk to analyse the use of the platform. Most of the cookies used by us are so-called session cookies, which are automatically deleted after the end of your visit. Cookies make navigation easier and allow a website's user friendliness to be improved. Browsers can be set to reject all cookies. If cookies are rejected, this may lead to a greater frequency of pop-up windows as advertising frequency is also controlled by cookies.

The security of your data

PIXELIO is committed to the security of your data in accordance with the relevant data protection laws. We have implemented technical and organisational security measures to protect the data we manage against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction and access by unauthorised persons. Our security procedures are continually enhanced in line with technological progress. However, no form of electronic communication is totally secure. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that despite our high data protection standards, information which you voluntarily share over the Internet may be used by others. For this reason, PIXELIO cannot accept any responsibility or liability for the disclosure of information due to errors in data transmission or unauthorised access by third parties.

The right to revoke consent at any time

You have the right to revoke your consent to the use of your personal data at any time. Please submit any requests for information concerning personal data to the following e-mail address: datenschutz@pixelio.de
Your trust in PIXELIO is important to us. We are therefore always on hand to answer your questions regarding the processing of your personal data.
